Maruti Alto is made in India especially customized for the Indian car market, which is heavily dominated by small cars. The car was launched in India on September 27, 2000. Interestingly, Suzuki was exporting Maruti Zen to the European markets from India since 1994 with the brand name of Maruti Alto. The car with Maruti Alto brand name had 40% market share in Belgium and 33% in Netherlands around 1998.Alto has crossed the 1 million mark in production as of February 2008.
