This past week, mobile enthusiasts converged on Barcelona for the Mobile World Congress (MWC), the largest exhibition of its kind.

Though Apple did not attend the four-day conference, the iPhone 4 received the coveted Best Mobile Device award on Tuesday. On the showfloor, however, Googles Android platform stole the limelight. Android-equipped tablets and smartphones from the likes of Sony, HTC, Motorola and Samsung were among the most sought-after devices on display.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 (aka Galaxy Tab 2)

At a special gathering in Barcelona a day before the Mobile World Congress kicked off, Sony demoed its highly anticipated Xperia Play, informally known as the PlayStation Phone. A combination smartphone and portable gaming device, the Xperia Play will run Googles Android operating software and will be available from Verizon in April.

HTC Salsa

HTC announced two smartphones, each with a dedicated Facebook button. According to the Associated Press, AT&T will carry both devices, which are called the HTC Salsa and the HTC ChaCha.

The Android-equipped HTC ChaCha, alongside the HTC Salsa, created a stir at its debut in Barcelona, primarily because of its Facebook button.

LG Optimus 3D

LG wowed crowds with what is being called the first color 3D smartphone. The Optimus 3D will run Android 2.2 and will be available in sometime in Spring 2011. However, AP reports, there has been no announcement about a price tag or a carrier.

Samsung Galaxy S II

Samsung unveiled its Galaxy S II smartphone, running Android 2.3 (Ginerbread) and sporting a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED Plus screen. The device is built around a dual-core processor and features two webcams. Samsung will also include an option to equip the Galaxy S II with Near Field Communication (NFC) technology.

LG Optimus 3D

LG Optimus 3D users will be able to record their own 3D videos and upload them directly to YouTube.

Umeox Apollo

Reportedly the first solar-powered device to run Googles Android OS, the Umeox Apollo features modest specs and will carry a price tag that wont break the bank.
